Welcome to my first on-line column

Welcome to my first on-line column, well overdue I have been informed . This is the latest addition to our site, so every month I will be reporting on events happening in the exciting world of restaurants, food and wine and hot tips, so hopefully there will be lots to report, but it is amazing, how events can happen just close to home.. or even in the office.

The mad Christmas rush is over, everyone is back at work, good television programmes have returned (except for the weight loss programs). During the holidays I stayed at home and made the most of everything happening in Sydney whilst doing some filming for our new feature Best Videos go to www.bestvideos.com.au/restaurants/ to see videos on restaurant, food wine events, it has been a lot of fun filming and we look forward to lots more on our site in the future. There are some great food and wine events coming up, Taste of Sydney, Audi Noosa Food Festival, Melbourne Food & Wine FestivalNSW Wine Week, so stay tuned.

We have even added an international touch to this feature with videos of restaurants and hotels inShanghaiBali and soon the best restaurants and hotels in Bangkok. Yolanda de Groot looks after our site www.bestvenues.com.au and www.bestgiftcertificates.com.au and has managed to fit in some overseas travel in her busy schedule, last year visiting Shanghai where she interviewed some very well known Michelin star chefs in this vibrant city. She is off to Bangkok next month and staying at the Mandarin Oriental hotel where she will be filming their cooking school also the Sirocco Restaurant at the Lebua State Tower and Koi restaurant one of the hottest restaurants in Bangkok. I am off to Cairns and Port Douglas in April to do some filming – someone has to do it and I do have enough handbags.

Ideally my next holiday would include a few days in Tasmania to have lunch or dinner at two of my favourite restaurants in Australia, Stillwater and Daniel Alps in Launceston on the Tamar River, then off to few days in the Yarra Valley staying at the Relais Chateaux Chateau Yering and lunch at Stones of the Yarra Valley. Then off to Adelaide, lunch at Bridgewater Mill in the Adelaide Hills followed by a few days in the Barossa Valley. Then Queenslandwhen the temperature cools down.. I would fly to the Gold Coast and then head straight for Mt. Tamborine and have lunch or dinner at one my very favourite restaurants in Australia, Songbirds Rainforest Retreat.. just 30 minutes drive from the Gold Coast. Worth a trip to the Gold Coast just to have lunch or dinner and stay the night in their luxurious suites.

No-one can deny there are some challenging times ahead for most businesses.
Make the most of the great specials at some of the leading restaurants on our site and some inexpensive air fares on offer by Virgin. Our capital cities are very inexpensive cities to eat out in, compared to London, Paris and New York. Harbourkitchen&bar at the Park Hyatt offers a $39 special Monday to Friday, includes main course, glass of wine and parking, beat that. Dining at Galileo at the five star Observatory Hotel or 3 hatted Bilsons in Sydney, both world class restaurants and dining here will temporarily transport you to a restaurant in Europe – without the exorbitant prices and leaving your overcoat and umbrella at the entrance.

We endeavour to keep everything up to-date on our site, if anyone spots a restaurant that has closed or if we have missed any new restaurants , please send us an email. We also welcome any comments, suggestions and feedback on our site. Although we are an internet company we are in the hospitality industry and love contact with our viewers. If you are coming to Australia from overseas, send us an email if you want some suggestions on where to dine. Until next month..
